Shaki Waterfall
Shaki Waterfall

Shaki Waterfall is situated in Armenia, above Lake Shaki. The altitude is 18 m. The waterfall is located 3 km North-West of Sisian city, in gorge of the River Vorotan. According to the legend, enemies kidnapped 93 beauties from the Gegharkuni village for their commander, who had stopped in Mughan with his army. When the caravan of captives was on the spot, ladies turned to the invader with request: “The road was long and exhausting. We got dusty and dirty. Let us have a bath in the river and then only show up to your majors.”
The invaders agreed. The ladies undressed and jumped into the River Vorotan. They sank and disappeared. Only blue-eyed lady, named Shake, swam across the river, trying to escape. The invaders managed to catch up with her, but on that very moment a rock appeared under her and the water, flowing above the rock, hid her under its foams. After that story, the waterfall and the village, where it is located were called Shaki.

Tatev Monastery
Tatev Monastery

The complex of the Tatev monastery consists of three churches, refectory, book – stack, tomb and protective structures. The ancient and main church of the monastery is dedicated to St. Poghos Petros. It was built on the initiative of Bishop Hovanes in the 895-906 years. One of the masterpieces of medieval Armenian architecture is the Tatev monastery. It is located on a hill which is surrounded on three sides by deep chasms, and it can only be reached from the north. According to tradition, the monastery was named after the disciple of the Apostle Thaddeus – Eustateos. The entire composition of the monastery complex Tatev is in perfect harmony with the magnificent mountain scenery. The construction of the Tatev complex lasted about 500 years.

"Wings of Tatev" Ropeway
"Wings of Tatev" Ropeway

Church bells were ringing loud in Tatev on October 16 of 2010, heralding the launch of a program to revive a medieval monastic complex and the opening of "Wings of Tatev Ropeway". The 5.7 km ropeway, built within 11 months, passes through a deep gorge of the River Vorotan and over hills, covered with lush forests. The tramway is supported by three towers between its two terminals. One terminal is on a hill, overlooking the village of Halidzor and the other is near Tatev Monastery, on the road to Tatev village. Two cabins operate at once, traveling in opposite directions. There are 6 cables altogether (3 for each cabin), each uniquely foreseen for the specifications of this project. Within about 11 minutes a tramway cabin takes passengers, 30 at a time, from the village of Halidzor to the magnificent complex of Tatev.

Khndzoresk Caves

Two banks of the gorge - Old and New Khndzoresk, are connected by a long swinging bridge, from which four churches of Khndzoresk and a spring of Nine children are visible. The bridge was built in 2012 on the initiative and sponsorship of local businessman Zhora Aleksanyan. The length of the bridge is 160 meters, height 63 meters, and weight - 14 tons. The bridge can simultaneously "service" about 700 people with an average weight.Khndzoresk was the largest village in Eastern Armenia. The population of the village was 4200 in the XIX century, and at the beginning of the XX century - 8,300 people.
